Philip Gilman is a versatile IP, technology and patent attorney with extensive experience at top NYC law firms and Fortune 500 companies. Philip advises on IP and technology transactions, market data licensing, open source, technical standards, and IP due diligence. Philip is also a registered patent attorney (Reg. No. 38,160).

Philip structures, negotiates and closes IP and technology transactions. He is expert in complex hosted and traditional hardware and software systems; market data; open source; technical standards licensing; patent and IP strategy; and shepherding new technology initiatives in highly regulated (banking, financial services, pharmaceuticals) and patent-defense (telecom, wireless, chemical) industries. He has a keen business sense, as well as a deep grasp of the underlying technology, data and science driving his clients’ business.

In addition to Philip’s legal expertise, he has 10 years of experience as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry and in academia.

Philip received his JD from Brooklyn Law School, a master’s degree in chemistry from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Albany. He is the past Chair (multiple terms) of the Patent Committee of the IP Section of the New York State Bar Association, and is currently an Executive Committee member.
