Benjamin Ross

As UK Managing Partner and Global Head of the Privacy & Cybersecurity practice, Benjamin runs the firm’s UK office and oversees all privacy advice to clients.

Benjamin deals with privacy/data protection issues on a daily basis, with a particular expertise in the drafting and negotiation of vendor facing and client facing data processing agreements (DPAs), implementing process improvements, templates and playbooks for clients to reduce friction in the negotiation process.

As Global Head of Privacy & Cybersecurity, Benjamin leads the team to support clients on privacy/data protection compliance, covering the EU and UK GDPR as well as the US state privacy laws and other analogous global laws, implementing a pragmatic and efficient approach to implementation and remediation of existing compliance programmes. This includes developing and refreshing records of processing, privacy notices, data protection policies and intragroup data transfer agreements.

Benjamin is also closely involved with leading and developing the integration of technology into the firm’s practice for the benefit of clients, pioneering an innovative and semi-automated Transfer Risk Assessment Solution to support compliance with the European and UK requirements on transfers of data outside of adequate countries.

Other key areas of focus for Benjamin are advising clients on AI issues, complex technology agreements (SaaS arrangements and negotiations with large cloud service providers), and problematic commercial contracts.

Reinforcing his advice on compliance with the GDPR, Benjamin has obtained the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) credential in European privacy laws and regulations and supports other team members to achieve the same as part of fostering the firm’s culture of continual training and improvement.

Prior to joining Bortstein Legal Group, Benjamin was in-house at Prudential UK & Europe, advising on commercial, technology, data protection and regulatory issues, where he also successfully passed the modules in the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning from the Chartered Insurance Institute, covering financial services, regulation, investment principles and risk. Before that Benjamin worked at a global law firm and trained at a City law firm.

Benjamin speaks conversational French and Spanish and in his spare time, enjoys singing, playing the cello and practising krav maga.
