Jessica Vautier is an experienced lawyer specialising in data protection and privacy, particularly in the technology sector. Jessica is known for her calm, practical approach, and her ability to break down complex legal matters into clear, understandable bites.
Following a period at a boutique law firm in Jersey in the Channel Islands, Jessica trained and qualified as an English solicitor in house at a multi-national design and engineering firm, practicing a mixture of construction and intellectual property & tech law. The rapid-fire contract reviews, plain English drafting, and focus on risk management have been a vital part of Jessica’s practice ever since.
Jessica also worked as a commercial lawyer in house at a large multinational energy company, where she developed her expertise in data protection and gained valuable experience project managing enterprise-wide change programs.
Jessica moved to private practice in 2018 as a data protection and technology lawyer, and has advised a range of clients from startups to international businesses on their contracts and privacy compliance. As well as providing day-to-day commercial and data protection advice, Jessica provided clients with an external Data Protection Officer service, which gives her a unique and pragmatic perspective when advising clients on data protection matters.
Jessica has extensive experience advising on: privacy and cookies notices; data processing and sharing agreements (including intra-group agreements); cross-border data transfers (including transfer risk assessments and standard contractual clauses); internal data protection policies and procedures; data protection impact assessments; legitimate interest assessments; records of processing activities; gap analysis / remediation projects and audits.
Jessica also has considerable expertise in reviewing, drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial agreements, representing a mixture of buyers and sellers. Examples include: e-commerce terms and conditions (including online marketplaces), app and software development agreements, intellectual property assignments and licences, frameworks and master services agreements, SaaS agreements, consultancy and professional services agreements, R&D and collaboration agreements.
