Julian Conway is a Senior Associate at Bortstein Legal Group in London, specializing in compliance with privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations as well as assisting clients with technology transactions.

He advises on a wide range of technology contracts, including licenses for AI products, intellectual property licenses and assignments, and contracts for the provision of hosting, maintenance, development, support and managed IT services.

Julian also supports financial institutions with market data licences, partnering with third parties on fund administration and loan servicing arrangements, and also provides M&A transactional support.

In addition, Julian advises extensively on compliance with European, UK, US and other privacy and cybersecurity laws and regulations. This includes drafting and negotiating data processing agreements, cybersecurity exhibits and contracts that facilitate complex cross-border data flows.

He has a strong interest in helping organizations to maintain appropriate policies, procedures and compliance frameworks to ensure that personal data and commercially sensitive information is safeguarded and used in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Julian has significant in-house experience having spent over a year seconded to one of the world’s leading private equity firms, providing day to day support on a wide range of matters relating to data protection and privacy to legal, compliance and business stakeholders. He was also seconded for over a year to a household name global payments company, working closely with the office of the General Counsel.

Julian holds an LLB in European Legal Studies from the University of Southampton. This involved successfully completing a year at the Université Lumière Lyon 2 studying French law. He is a member of the Society for Computers & Law.
