Louis Trotta

Louis Trotta has more than 25 years of experience representing global financial services firms in a wide range of technology, intellectual property, market data, and outsourcing transactions.

Immediately prior to joining BLG, Lou was Counsel in the Financial Institutions Group at Latham & Watkins, where he helped to build that firm’s FinTech practice representing major banks, broker dealers, and select financial technology service providers.  While there, Lou handled complex matters such as the sale of an index data business, a joint venture agreement for the development of transaction monitoring tools, and agreements relating to an emerging company’s deployment of blockchain technology solutions.

For 17 years prior to that, Lou was an Associate General Counsel at Goldman Sachs, where he managed the firm’s Technology, Intellectual Property and Contracts (Americas) practice group.  In that capacity, Lou structured and negotiated a wide range of agreements including major outsourcing, system development, market data, and index licensing contracts.  He also worked closely with the firm’s chief privacy counsel on matters relating to data security, and served as the firm’s representative on the Technology & Regulation Subcommittee of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA).

Over the course of his career, Lou also worked as counsel for Salomon Brothers, Smith Barney, and Citigroup, and was an associate attorney in a commercial and criminal litigation practice.

Lou has a JD from Brooklyn Law School and an MA and BA from the State University of New York at Albany.
